Founded in 1976, AFSA represents 20,000 primary and secondary school Principals, Vice-Principals, Administrators, and Supervisors across the United States. With over 90 local chartered unions, AFSA currently administers 83 contracts for its members.

Major employers of AFSA members include: the New York City Board of Education, the Chicago Public Schools system, the Detroit Public Schools system, Baltimore City Public Schools system, and the Prince George’s County Public Schools system, among others. AFSA is affiliated with the AFL-CIO.
