Founded in 1937, AFTRA represents 80,000 members in four major areas: news and broadcasting, entertainment programming, the recording business, and commercials and non-broadcast, industrial, educational media. AFTRA currently administers 400 collective bargaining agreements, and has 34 local chartered unions. AFTRA members are seen or heard on television, radio, and sound recordings, and include actors, announcers, news broadcasters, singers (including royalty artists and background singers), dancers, sportscasters, disc jockeys, talk show hosts and others. Major employers of AFTRA members include: Hearst, Sinclair, CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, Tribune, Disney, Clear Channel, Gannett, Cox, and Univision.
