IBEW was founded in1891, and has grown to become the largest union of electrical workers in the world. Today, IBEW represents 775,000 members working in government, the construction, utility, telecommunications, manufacturing, railroad and broadcasting industries. IBEW has 988 local unions across the United States, Canada and in the Panama Canal Zone. IBEW is signatory to 6,235 collective bargaining agreements throughout the industries in which its members work.
Long a leader in education and training, IBEW has some of the most highly skilled workers in North America among its ranks. IBEW members manufacture, install and maintain some of the most sophisticated electrical and telecommunications systems in the world. Their professional and telecommunications members are employed by Verizon, SBC, and other telecom companies. IBEW is affiliated with the AFL-CIO and the Canadian Labour Congress.
