  • Employment in professional occupations is expected to increase by 6.5 million between 2002 and 2012 -- more than any other group of workers.
  • Professional and related employment is expected to increase by 23.3% between 2002 and 2012, while total U.S. employment is expected to increase by less than 15%.

  • In 2004, 18.2% of all professional and technical workers were union members.
  • 21% of all professional and technical workers were represented by unions.
  • In 2004, union membership among all wage and salary workers was 12.5%.
