Over Four million professional, technical and administrative support workers are members of DPE unions. Despite the common misperception that organized labor is primarily a blue collar movement, today, over 51% of all union members are white collar workers. In fact, the professional specialty occupations now have more union members than any other occupational group.

For professional and technical workers, the key attraction of a union is that it gives them a voice. The ability of unions to bargain and negotiate with employers on behalf of their members can make a critical difference in the lives of the members.

Nurses, teachers, university researchers and professors, customer service representatives, psychologists, scientists, engineers, actors and musicians, along with a host of other highly trained and skilled white collar workers have found a voice for themselves and their professions through their union and the collective bargaining process.
